About Us

Below is information about how we started out, through to our intension's in the future - nothing beats knowing about the company you're about to deal with...

History:

ImageMason Engineering was established in the village of Swainby in 1956 by my late father Samual 'Sam' Mason, originally trading as Sam'son' Engineers, at the time assisted by myself, Trevor Mason - an eleven year old schoolboy. Within five years I was 'multi-tasking' - operating and maintaining machines in forestry applications, progressing to plant and operating backhoe and crawler loaders for a local plant hire company. By 1970 we were operating our own hire business, with my wife Suzanne running the accounts department with a business name change to Mason Engineering and Plant Hire, however, the plant hire was dropped when the decision was taken to concentrate on the engineering side, brought by an impending recession. in 1978 we built a new workshop of some 3000 sq feet complete with overhead craneage, we were soon to outgrow this and by 1985 we moved to our present address at Ashfield, approx half a mile outside of the village. On leaving school, our son Shaun joined us now and plays a major role in running the company, at this time we were working from redundant poultry sheds untilImagewe built our current premises of 18,000 sq feet to replace them.

The Future:

Despite the economic climate, we are cautiously optimistic about our future, as this is written, it is February 2009 and our heads are still well above water in the current recession - 'only time will tell' of the outcome...
